Too right Webby  :y :y

As Chris pointed out, I think this is a nice reminder for DIY work. We can oil change for what, around £15/20 all in??

So that is easily 5 changes for the cost of one  :o

Modern diesels are bloody economical compared to my 3.2, but for me you easily loose all that you have saved on dealer service costs. What would a "full" service be? £400? DIY can be done for say £60? (inc all parts)

£300/£340 gets a sh!t load of fuel!

Very true. iirc I spent £48 (or thereabouts) for the 4 for 3 deal at Vauxhall. Plus the aforementioned point of handing your nice new motor over to spotty 16 year olds who really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car!

Sounds right, on the 4pot, you only need 1x5L no top ups needed. Filters around £3 or so? (spin on) So yup, about £15. So that's 6 changes then?  ;D

This is another good point, we don't hand it over (generally) to seasoned mechanics who know that they are doing. Often see kids of college age underneath the car at the Vx dealer I used to go it.

Besides when it's you car, you spend a lot more time/effort/care on it.

Had a phone call from Lookers head office yesterday afternoon, asking me if I was completely satisfied with the service I recently had.

Seemed most concerned with the way I had been treated and the inconvenience I have been caused, and is going to take it up with the service manager at the branch, and follow up with me after it goes back in next week.

Yes, inconveniently located at the rear of the engine.

Dealer service on er Astra costs me about 60 notes plus the parts (trade club) which to keep the ten year warranty is pretty reasonable.

Interesting that members think 93.60 for an hour and a quarter of dealer work time is expensive.

Yet the highly recommended wheels in motion in Chesham charge 70+VAT for an hours labour. That is 84 per hour or 105 for an hour and a quarter. And they are not even a dealership! Just a suspension/tyre outfit. A good one none the less. But more expensive than Vauxhall main dealership prices!

To me that sounds cheap. My BMW dealership costs in 2010 were 125 per hour.

Whats that? Mates rates? Frequent flyer rates?

Us normal folk have to pay the full price you see. Plus I am sure they overcharged me for something else as well. Which reminds me I need to send them an email re: that.

This is not the rate for geo setup. It is the cost for wishbone replacement etc. Which I am sure a lot of our members have DIY.

Let's be fair - We all want everything for nothing.

BUT

To have a Mickey Mouse outfit (most Vx Dealers) charge he earth for a job an Indie will do for pocket money takes the piss.

Flip side, if you have a job which should be left to the professionals (such as full Geo) then paying strong money makes sense - Tyres are expensive!
