Odd noise from rear suspension
« on: 30 October 2013, 10:20:50 »

I've finally managed to get another Omega after I had to let my beloved V6 go last year. Have a 2002 2.2 saloon and I've noticed when I drive for more than about 10 miles or so, the back end starts to make a creaking sound when I go over a bump. It sounds like it's coming from the NS rear wheel. I'm puzzled as to what it could be because it doesn't do it all the time or on short journeys. I really have no clue what is the issue so I would be grateful for any advice.  :)

It could be an exhaust rubber has snapped,or as others have said rear poly bush,or worst case is wheel bearing, and there also the old favourite broken hand brake spring rubbing on drum, but that's more of a squeaking noise.

In fact there might be some used ones knocking around as a few people have fitted poly instead of the normal rubber ones.

thanks for the suggestions guys. At least I have a couple of things to explore. One other question, if it's the bushes, does anybody know where I might be able to hire the proper removal tool. With my track record, if I try to do the job without it, it will only end in tears  ;D

Most just brutalize the old donut out using podger bars and chisels, then push the bush in as far as you can, then use the jack etc to push new in.
think theres a guide.

Needs properly diagnosing really, although they are probably knackered anyway. Most are by now.

Worth investigating other causes as well. I guess drive it until it creaks then rock the car while somebody grovels underneath to locate the noise.

Thanks for the tip. I'll get it properly checked out and see where it goes from there
