Hi guys, haven't been able to do much car work today as I got to see me gran then going out for Halloween piss up 

However, I've had a squeaking like ''eek, eek, eek'' on start up. I didnt take much notice as I thought it may be the aux belt and im picking up a replacement next week. however being the worrier I am I decided to take the aux belt off and quickly run the car with it off to ensure it was aux belt related.

It's not. Without aux belt running it still does it  I was going to strip it down anyway to shove a new aux belt on and its not tht big of a hassle to get the cam cover off. but what do you reckon the potential causes are

Sorry to hear Webby, but at least you are nearer tracking it down. A V6 expert will be along in a minute to help. Not hearing the noise its difficult to judge. Could it be lifters?

Did you absolutely, definitively, beyond all doubt determine the correct combination of back plate & spacers to use with the idlers on your engine?

As described the sound could be caused by a cold/damp belt squeaking as it goes over the idlers but given your recent history you cannot be too careful.

Apologies for not responding earlier. Decided to forget my car worries and get drunk last night

On Wednesday im going to strip it down and get a look. I trust I can run car for very short period with cam belt cover off to ascertain if its a tensioner/idler or whether its something touching the belt like the cover?

My old 2.5 made that noise on cold start up. A shot of wd40 on the belt stopped it. I think the belt was catching on one of the runners.

To be honest over the last 3 months i've become a bit of a master at getting to the cambelt cover....for all the wrong reasons sadly.

But anyway i'm going to run it with cam belt cover off and then ill be able to tell if its coming from the belt or whether its something rubbing.

i 1 million percent know its not the set up of the belt as jaime did it for me expertly! i suppose some crap could have got on the belt. but we'll see what the tear down brings up

oh and yeah it just does it from cold 

i suppose when doing a start up with cambelt cover off i should try (wehere i can) to keep as much stuff plugged in as possible like MAF and AIT. obviously could be a bit awkward. in fact no sod it, im going to school this week to reset codes. if it brings up new codes it will get wiped then
