Haven't used the car for a week and got in it today and found at least an inch of water in the rear passenger footwell.  All the windows were up and doors closed correctly.  Seeing as it hasn't moved from my driveway I can't imagine it is water spraying up.  Has anyone got any idea where it is coming from and how I can cure it?  It is only in the foot well and can't see where it is coming from.  Thanks

Is the front passenger foot well wet too? Could be the usual blocked scuttle drain and there's enough water in the car to have soaked the rear too.

Yup, especially if vehicle is parked 'nose up'.

Yes the car is parked on a slight incline with the nose in the air.  Front passenger footwell is dry but the rear really is swimming with water.  I had to bail it out with a takeaway carton this morning.  Whereabouts is this scuttle drain and what do I need to do with it.  Thanks for the prompt reply

Open your bonnet and look at the wipers from the front of the car.  There is a large plastic piece which runs the width of the car.  To the left of this (and to the right on earlier cars) will be a hole leading to fresh air.  If these are blocked, the water backs-up and leaks into the cabin.

Thanks will investigate further in the morning. It looked as though the water had come from the heater vent in the floor under the seat although i could be wrong.

Easy job if you have a small hand with long fingers, otherwise it can be a bit more difficult where access is limited when clearing the debris that is blocking the drain.

Don't leave it as it will fairly quickly drown and kill the heater fan motor.

Did you get your hand under the carpet too? There's loads of sound insulation under the carpet that'll soak gallons of water before the water is noticed on top of the carpet.

A common problem which a lot of omega owners come across. After having destroyed the hedgehog om my last car I now check the scuttle almost every week , a bit over the top maybe but it only takes a couple of minutes and gives peace of mind. Especially  when the leaves are coming off the trees.

How would you know when this heater is on it's way out?

I have noticed a nice little puddle on my front passenger floor so I have checked around the bonnett area to make sure it's all clear, my car is parked under a tree 

There is an awful lot of condensation in the car 5 mins after you get into it so I am sure it's not fully dried out yet.

The near side scuttle drain is on just above the chassis leg, as far back as you can get behind the ABS unit when blocked, the water overflows past the pollen filter and into the heater fan. It then drains down into the heater ducts and into the footwells

Access from above is via the small flap used for changing the pollen filter. The drain is just to the left and down from the pollen filter as you look at it from the front

When the speed controller for the fan is  caput the fan will run all the time even when the ignition is off .The only way to stop it is to remove the  appropriate fuse. You carpets will take a long time to dry unless you put a heater in that area to dry it out, untill you get rid of all that water you will get condensation.

Not necessarily   Heater fan not working at all can also be caused by fecked speed controller
