For the first time in eighteen months I.........
« on: 15 November 2013, 17:07:59 »

......... just about managed a leg-over without falling asleep ;D ;D ;D. ;)

Just kidding chaps, because instead of yielding to the pleasures of the flesh I donated an armful (470 ml) of my proletariat blood instead.

I used  to donate three times a year but recently my ferritin levels (stored iron) have been too low to donate. :-\ :-\

It's amazing the things that some people will do for a cup of tea and a wagon wheel. ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though, having given blood only 13 times I'm a mere novice compared to some here at OOF......Andy B.eanz along with Jimbob and Alfie and many others have donated more than fifty times to my knowledge :y :y :y :y .

So, If you don't suffer with a needle phobia, and you're not worried about fainting in front of a crowd  ;D ;D ;D ;D...then I suggest you give it a go. :y :y

Keep meaning to do so, actually, but have never got round to it.

So, cut to the chase. What were the nurses like?  :-*

I gave blood once when I was young and irresponsible!  ::)

Me and a few mates popped in to give a donation, and then trooped off to the pub afterwards for a few pints to recover!!  :)  We got pissed very quickly and had to practically carry one of the lads home.   ::)  He'd fainted earlier in the blood bank!!  :o  ;D

Happens quite often, Sir Tig....... and usually to the 'big guy' who has just downed eight pints of lager but hasn't drunk enough water . ;D ;D

Most of the girlies seem fine. :y

WHERE, where, where?  :o It certainly wont be the old hospital in Greetwell Road Lincoln - they don't give Wagon Wheels.

Blood doning is easy enough, bone marrow is another thing altogether & really makes your eyes water .....

I still go regularly, but have trouble actually hearing them speaking to me as they insist on having music on specifically so that you cant earwig in on other folks conversations. I'm impressed with the hours they put in, they do long days - our lot seem to come from Sheffield ...

I was pals with their fleet manager some years back - they used to use Focus estates to ship urgent supplies around, these were an unusual spec in that they were base models with Xenon headlights ......

With a lot of discomfort/soreness as opposed to pain .....

It's done under a general and involves extracting the marrow through the pelvic bone wall - this can only be done by making holes and sucking it out. All in all it means you are out of circulation for the best part of a week - as the lower back is very sore it makes walking/sitting/sleeping very uncomfortable. It was 20+ years ago now & still gives me the creeps ....

Your reaction reminds me of the famous scene from 'Carry on nurse'............The one where Barbara Windsor takes Sid James blood pressure and the BP monitor explodes. ;D ;D ;D

P.S.....I've just seen you new avatar, Mr Emd. :y......but I think you are more 'Skint Eastwood' than 'Clint Eastwood' ::) ::) ::) ;D

Poverty is my constant companion, Steve. :'( :'(

However, yourself and your good lady headmistress are obviously worth a bob or two. :y :y :y
