Went to
Clacton Cracktown on sea today, coming back about 5pm just going down a fast left hander onto the slip road to the A120 and the steering felt very heavy. Swmbo then pointed out the red light on the dash (battery not charging) and the temp gauge quickly shot of the scale.
Borrocks ,I thought, aux belt has snapped. Drove on for about a mile until I found a layby, lifted the bonnet and sure enough I could see various bits of belt hanging off pulleys.
Called green flag, who turned up in half an hour and drove the Mig onto the back of the recovery truck. The first time Ive ever had to do that in my life. Took a while to get home as the A12 was completely blocked due to an accident, but got home at 7pm.
Had an important meeting to go to tonight,so hung a torch on the underside of the bonnet and got the tools out. It turns out the tensioner pulley and bearing had collapsed and disintegrated allowing the belt to escape captivity and shred itself all over the engine bay.
Had a spare belt and tensioner pulley in the shed so proceeded to change them. Due to the only light being the torch hanging from the bonnet it took almost 2 hours. Had to get it up and running as I have to go to work at 6.45 am in the morning, and both my other cars are currently unroadworthy.

Got to the meeting just as it finished, but the car seems to be running fine with no apparent damage.

An interesting evening to say the least.
