[Rant on]

I am in the midst of getting things ready for moving house which has turned in to a complex project with amoung other things includes co-ordinating:

- Delivery of hardcore, and other materials for laying the shed base
- hire of necessary equipment for making the base
- hire of van to move belongings
- March-out of the current MOD house
- organising cleaners
- etc, etc

One of the easiest things was making sure that there is an overlap in internet access between the two dwellings so that I can continue working from home, but even this easy task was too difficult for one numpty at Sky.  Instead of my current broadband carrying on until Friday, it stopped this morning which means I cannot work from home.  This is not a dig at Sky because the lady I spoke to this morning was very understanding and it sound like she was as upset as I was about the situation.  She could not reconnect me either as the order at the exchange had gone through.  So I am buggered using my mobile phone as a hotspot but being in MOD housing means I am in a comms poo-hole >:(

Then there is the solicitors.  When I have questions I send an email, then another, then I call and leave 2 messages, eventually I have to go down to the offices and sit there.  I know that all the monies will be ready the day before the sale but they are adamant that completion will take place around 1-2pm.......!   There is no reason why it cannot go through earlier but I now risk the installation of the FO in the new house as the engineers are due to arrive in the afternoon.

Grrrrrr, grrr and double grrrrrr!!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Nope, I still can't for the life of me why it is so stressful... ::)

I think it's the fact that there's so much reliance on third parties, whether it's the other people in the chain, the phone companies or even the van rental people...

Hopefully, this time next week, you'll be feet up with a glass of summat nice, thinking 'Thank fook that's over' :y

Just the way things go sometimes. I did my own conveyancing on a house many years ago and at one stage a solicitor for the other side said something could not be done for a week as he had to write to someone and get their response. I went to his place - picked up the letter - took it to where  it had to go - got the reply and finished it in the same afternoon and we moved within a day after that!!

I am dealing with one solicitor now who is very good - but I send him emails and he sends me stuff in the post?? I am in the process of educating him. He wanted a document to be signed by my mother who is 200 miles away from me. Scanned it,emailed to care home and got care home staff to get it signed and faxed back to him - rapido.

Yes solicitors still operate as if it's the 19th century and I've always found them a bit 'Dickensian'  ::)

Take a deep breath Guffer, as Al said this time next week.....  ;)  :y

I still boil with anger when I think back 15 years ago and remember the sheer incompetence and utter laziness and disinterest of my solicitor when selling my house. Money for old rope springs to mind.
He almost caused the cancellation of the house sale, and ironically if he had he would have done me the biggest favour I ever had.
Funny old world really. ::)
Not many things more stressful than a house move ime. ;)

on the plus side......

If you get your mobile in the right spot and working as a WiFi Hotspot (tethering) that you get download speeds 6 times faster than a copper line. For those who are not local, the Military housing patch here is in a comms dead spot (medieval broadband, poor mobile coverage, nobody wants to do anything about it)

My speeds went from 1.5MB down/0.5MB up to 9.5 down/1.5 up......through a rather phone!

I am anoyed I have only just realised this :-[

Anyone who's moved house has a tale of an incompetent 'tard of a solicitor. In our case, he breaked off on holiday for two weeks after locking our buyer's entire file in a safe, on the day we expected to complete, and didn't leave a key with his partners.  >:(

Chain complete and sale agreed on 1st June, moved house on 1st October.

Like insurance companies, you're locked into using one, so they can take your money and give you cr@p service with impunity. ::)

It'll get sorted in the end. :y

The trail of incompetence with Sky will probably end at the door of Open Reach.

Solicitors, it's not just moving house. It's, well, solicitors. Full stop.
Shoddy, at best.
