That's nuts! Although lpg smells funny, surely you'd notice and not ignite the lighter in the first place, or at least you'd hope so anyway!

About 30 years ago I had a company Escort van, on LPG, yep even then, the first wave of LPG as we know it all the vehicles had it and we even had our own tank to fill up with...... :y :y

Anyway, my van was being used by someone else and set itself of fire, the fire brigade arrived and actually tried to remove the gas tank, but failed, they extinguished the fire though. I knew what started the fire and was down to the local Ford Dealer but was told to keep quiet, so did so; well I was young.... ;) ;) and scored well tool and stuff wise on the insurance... :y :y

The point is, whole van on fire, and the tank did not explode...... :y

Yep, for years the myth that an LPG tank is a bomb has been circulating, yet the reality is that you can get one as hot as you like and it will just vent until it's empty. If it leaks, the gas will just dissipate and in the unlikely event that the gas leaks into the interior (very unlikely due to the venting arrangements) you'll get a bang as the gas burns off but no sustained fire.

Compare with a plastic petrol tank that will dump its' entire load of fuel after a minute or two, the fuel will then pool on the ground, unleashing a lot of burning vapour over a wide area.

I know which fire I'd rather deal with.

Suspect the LPG associations are keen to make out its explosive to line the pockets of their own. No trade body is ever there for the benefit of the consumer.

Agreed. Does make me wonder how much business they've destroyed for their own members, though, retards. Still, had it had a massive take-up, the government would no doubt have got greedy even more greedy on the taxation by now.
