bit of a catastrophe
« on: 21 December 2013, 13:02:33 »

hi guys! you'll have to excuse the fact im a musician and not a mechanic! jsut wonderd if any of you could point me in the direction of what has happened to my omega please.
Basically it overheated the other day, as soon as i was aware of that i stopped the engine, upon opening the bonnet i noticed oil had come up out of the coolant reservoir. once the engine had totally cooled i moved the car as it was at a set of busy traffic lights, it started fine it wasnt smoking or knocking etc etc,
My girlfriends father who is good with cars and has a fronty with the same engine came and had a look the other day he took part of the engine to test to see if it was leaking, i might be wrong but im sure he said it was part of the cooling system where the oil and water run past each other to transfer the heat? ha! excuse my really crap description there! the heater on the car wasnt working i.e. not blowing hot air. the oil is totally black and not mayo or yellow coloured at all.

just wondered if anyone had any thoughts/opinions on what this could be? the tow truck guy said instantly it was the head gasket?

many thanks for any help!!

Hi Jon.  It's the oil cooler and is a common failure on the Omega but luckily it's cheap and easy to fix ;)
