Yalding
« on: 28 December 2013, 19:21:17 »

Just came back from daughter's in Yalding, sorry no pics of floods, but it was bad. Fortunately she is above the floods, and we only had a power outage during Boxing day night. Walked down to the bridge and could not get to within 100yds of it, coming home we had to go East to Maidstone before coming West again. :'( :y

Yes, Yalding has been badly hit down here, with even now some residents without power since Monday.

The PM, David Cameron, even payed a visit to try and sympathise with the residents -take political control of the situation - but the leader of the Kent County Council still got it in the neck today!

Of course many seem to be blaming the power companies for the slow response to get the power back on, with one saying today "It shouldn't happen in the 21st century".  However unless all power cables are buried underground they will always be vulnerable to storms, and that will take trillions of pounds to do.  With everyone complaining about the cost of energy already, who is going to be happy to pay for that?! ;) :)

I was over In yalding myself today the water has I said in a previous post has receeded but the damage it as left behind will take a lot longer to repair the worst of it is some if not most residents are not insured due to the last big flood yalding had in 2000/1 :(

Ye reap what ye sow.

We concrete over vast swathes of Britain removing the ability of the ground to sponge up water and slow it

We fail to invest in proper power infrastructure

We build on flood plains that older folk remember flooded in their youth.

Spare a thought for our former friends the Argentinians. Height of their summer, temps in high 30's . Electric companies are plagued with long power cuts and so there is no mains water.................. OR the 500,000 North Americans still without power in sub zero conditions.........
