Fuel leaking into boot.
« on: 05 January 2014, 16:51:23 »

Got home last night, strong smell of diesel in load compartment, area under tank awash with diesel.

Only had the car a week! so not yet familiar with it. Anyone got any ideas, please? (Fuel return pipe or something)?

Have a look at the tank connections in the area under the inspection plate in the boot floor.

These can sometimes corrode and leak.

Failing that, check the hoses they connect to. It has been known for the back box split and to blow exhaust gases at the tank and melt It!

Nothing is ever easy, is it? Checked suggested areas, all dry! Traced leak to pipe up above diff, difficult to reach in the street! Car was bought with just 1 month warranty, which of course didn'y cover fuel leak - however, after some discussion with seller, he's having it back to do the job!!!
Thanks again to those people who responded.

Result! Dealer I bought the Omega from had it in this morning and replaced section of the pipe, then tried to charge me £20: after a short discussion, he agreed to £10. Not worth arguing about.

Drove home, parked up, no sign of leaking.

Next job will be to clean the lift pump filter as per the photos put up by Seth.

Thanks again, a great forum (much better than the Range Rover one I used to be on, no sarcastic silly comments).
