Electronic EGR Testing
« on: 10 January 2014, 20:15:18 »

Hi guys, how are ya? :)

Had a day off from doing brakes to help a guy at school with his blocked....no wait, blocked SOLID EGR valve  :o Seriously, I've never seen one so bad!!! So a few hours of letting it soak in carb cleaner and testing it with the hand vac-pump (as his had a diaphragm) showed that it worked spot on after the clean, buttoned it up (not easy on this car) and sent it on its' way. (I hear on Facebook its running sweeeeet now!  8))

So anyways that got me thinking. I'm probably due to clean my EGR. But of course I'd like to test it before and after I clean it.

Is it just a case of removing it, hooking up a 12v battery to the connection and watching the plunger, errrr, plunge? :) If not what is da procedure maaan? ;)

most egr valves can be tested by using diagnostic tool

The car was a Seat Leon. And we manually tested it with hand vacuum tool whilst off the car.

I then wanted to remove my EGR (Omega) and I'm thinking hooking it up to a battery via the connection will make it open..... same way as if you were to test a cooling fan.... hit it with 12 volts and watch it work  8)
