I'm considering keeping the MV6
« on: 16 January 2014, 11:17:08 »

I mean, what will I get for it?. Not a lot. :-\

The car is a known quantity and in my opinion one of the best around.

It's had all the usual Omega gremlins sorted.......New oil cooler ( mark DTM)........New original VX rocker gaskets ( Elite Pete)

It has also benefited from a new cambelt, along with a genuine VX water pump, only 12,000 miles ago.

Oh, and let's not forget four Goodyear eagle F1 Asy2 tyres which were fitted some 6,000 miles ago. These still appear almost as new and are superb both in the wet and the dry.

Should the CLS prove too expensive to run / unreliable/ ugly/ slow or boring, then I always have the trusty MV6 to fall back on.

Unless of course, somebody makes me an offer I can't refuse. ::) ::) ::) ;D

The car comes with tax 31/5 and MOT 5th June 2014. :)

Keep it :y you can use it for low key situations where the Merc might seem a bit ostentatious...

No insurance on it now, Al. :'(

I was thinking of going the SORN route.

So is this a sales thread or not M'lud?  :P  :)

Hang on to it for the time being, at least until you know where you are with the Merc.  I bought my Merc 16 months ago as a temporary workhorse (2 months  ::)) and SORN'ed The Mig.  When The Merc goes (hopefully soon) I've got The Mig which is a known quantity!  :y

It may sound crazy, but ten years from now when decent Omega's are as rare as rocking horse shit, a good example could be worth considerably  more than they are now. :y :y

At least, that's  what I tell myself. :)

It's ambiguous, Sir Tig. Maybe...perhaps......who knows. :)

you're now where I was 18 months ago fro the very same reason ...... a T reg Omega is worth pennies. At the moment on my drive I have, an Omega (that's not turned a wheel in months) a Merc R320, her Smart and its replacement (Citroen C3 auto) because she'd decided that she couldn't go another wet winter with a wet car. And my daughter's car! I just need a NCP sign making up  ;D
So, the Omega will go, I'll drive the Smart to & from work more and the Merc will be used as a tow car & hauling family around.

It's alright for you lot who live in the great unpopulated wastelands (Lincolnshire, the north, etc..  :P) with all your free space to keep cars around..

Spare a thought for those of us struggling to keep our fleets contained within our tiny overpopulated plots of land down south.. ;D

Doesn't it get expensive taxing and insuring all the vehicles you're not using, though? I thought it was extravagant having the M3, Omega and Amy's Micra.. ;D I had thought about getting a DTi and keeping the Omega but that would mean yet another ~£4-500 in insurance and ~£270 tax every year.. not to mention having to park it in the back garden!

Omega currently uninsured.

Family Corsa.......£97 insurance......£125 tax.

CLS 500........... less than £200  insurance.....£280 tax. So not too bad. :y

All four of our cars are on a 'Family Fleet' ins policy that was around £900 and I was getting similar quotes for the Merc on its own. The road tax is due for the Omega at the end of the month so it'll get 6 months so it can be test driven. I'm fortunate that I can park 3 cars side by side on my drive, but parking was kind of considered 20 yrs ago when we bought the house ..... at least some where to park our caravan. clicky she must've used the Omega for work that day  :-\

You say that Aaron... At least you can drive to your back garden ::)
I would need a crane, which would take up infinitely more space in front of the house than three cars ;D
