No cambelt , its a chain and on that age has the improved lubrication setup so the rule is, good servicing.

A common failing on the z22se engine is the chain. Although no set intervals chain failures are common. I had a failure on a 2003 astra but replaced it just in time along with the balancer shaft chain (full kits) poor oil maintenance causes the oil feed jet for the chain to become blocked starving the chain of oil. Some engines will never need one however some have failed at 30k. Rattling on start up generally indicates chain issues.

2002 rings a bell, there was a modification which most cars got (although not a formal recall).

Many thanks to the forum.

The Signum (if I buy it) could never really replace my Omega, it's just that we're both getting a bit long in the tooth.

It's 10 year old car and you have no way of knowing its service history(apart from a jackanory service book). I would budget for a chain instead of an engine later on.

I don't usually bother, there's about 15 jump in before me, and then it's perm any five from fifteen. But as the forum has died a death, I thought I'd have my tuppence worth.
And there's nothing technical about common sense. ;)

I don't want to burst Stemos bubble, (I do really) ;D but it has the bills, to back up the stamps in the book. Probably like me, I always have a ring binder full of anything relative to my cars & bikes.

That's good, not often you get all that paperwork  :y

Just as an aside...my mate traded a car with The Car People, another person I know bought it. First mate handed in reams of paperwork with the car, but it had 'gone missing' by the time second fella bought it. I don't think dealers really care one way or the other.

To be honest Bedders receipts and stamped books don't mean jack,my last omega which before I got it had been service by Vauxhall dealer 1000 miles before I picked him up, I changed the plugs there was 4 different makes of plugs fitted but I had a receipt saying Vauxhall had changed all four for new at the same time and tbh the state the plugs where in there was no way they were changed 2500 miles before.

The 2.2 Vectra I have now as a receipts saying the pollen filter was replaced at 20,000 again by Vauxhall dealer now at 30,000 I pulled it out and the state of it that has never been replaced so my advice assume nothing and take it, as it as never been done :y
