I find a suitable small blunt instrument, like a short scriber, or drill bit , placed in the hole with everything in position helps, just to get it all lined up.

Then hold it all still with one hand, while removing the blunt instrument then fitting the bolt with the other. Hopefully. ;)

Well I know it is called the B.Bolt but I was not going to be beaten by it today and full of renewed enthusiasm and armed with a selection of M8 bolts kindly provided by Nick W yesterday I waged war again today on the Bolt. >:(

After struggling to get the thread to catch despite being pretty sure all was lined up I very nearly threw the lifting tag away and fitted a spacer  :(,but I stopped and decided as I am abit anal with this car I would not except anything other than it being the way it was from new. :o

Lightbulb moment arrived after my second cuppa and numerous prowlings around car.If the holes in the bits that the bolt passed through were sligthly larger than the almost exact size of the bolt you would then have a bit more adjustment and wiggle-ability. ;) :)

Trusted drill set and electric drill out of shed and open up the hole in the lifting eye to 13mm and tried again.

If almost by magic on my first attempt bolt engaged in thread and within another few minutes was tightened up and back in place as it should  :).Doubt removing an extra 2.5mm all round the existing hole would cause much weakness if ever the engine lifting tag did get used but on a 10 year old car as we all know engine removal is almost certainly not a viable service option, but replacing a knackered thermostat is :y

So I may have helped others with the age old struggle with the B Bolt in future...open up the hole in the lifting tag to 13mm and happy days :) :) :)

I'm sure you could now throw in from the other side of the street with a 13 mm clearance hole  ::)  ::)  ::)
