This is my first post on the site

A big thank you to Daz ( aka Darth Loo knee) who earlier this month made the trip to replace the timing belt with kit, water pump and auxilary belt and tensioner. Great job done with no fuss, and would recommend Daz without any reservations.

With the above essential job now done, its funny how 1 job leads onto another because it was now time to tackle the high pitched whirling sound from the alternator and fortunately another one was available to me from my other omega, an ex plod MV6.Together with excellent info and guides on this site, and a youtube video - link How_to_Renew_Alternator on the  Catera (US name for the omega), I have now extracted the alternator from the MV6 and will swap it this week, aches and pains permitting as its 30yrs since I worked under a car ,and will also attempt to dismantle and replace the alternator bearings which seem to be the cause of the noise problem, but there are some useful youtube videos, but not yet found a guide on this site for bearing replacement ?

I used axle stands and a 4x4 trolley jack but aim to screw together lengths of 4x2 and make some "cribbing blocks" as an alternative to purchasing car ramps, most of which I have seen in the sub £50 price range do not seem to be entirely "fit for purpose" for omega and 4x4 tyre widths.

Whatever you end up doing make sure it is 100% safe.  I am sure someone will recommend suitable cost effective ramps

Yes, would also have axle stands in place as additional support - health and safety comes first, thanks
