what grease for door hinges?
« on: 02 February 2014, 18:51:03 »

So I have joined Detailing World and cleaned my door hinge (only had time to clean the drivers door). I have White Lithium Grease and WD40  ;D yes I know AndyB

But white grease is quite messy but I can try to spray it using the straw. If I was to remove the black cap and spray around the the hinge pin, would that work its way in?

I dont want to cover the outside of the hinge in grease like garages do to show they've done something.

I always use the white grease with the straw and wipe the excess off.  :y

Do you spray directly at the hinge and do you think it penetrates into the important bits?

I try to get the straw as tight as I can so it forces it in between the parts.  :y

You can, but it tends to be sticky to prevent it flying off. White lithium grease IMO.

Squirt and wipe. ;)

Can't do any harm. But the rollers on the spring in the door are the important bit. Difficult to get to, even with a a straw on the aerosol.

Personally, I don't think it actually needs much lubing, other than those little rollers.

About how to clean or what products to use?

All purpose cleaner such as daisy or Flash and a stiff brush plus a lot of elbow grease. It took a lot of effort to remove the stubborn grease from the drivers side alone. Most likely that it's never been cleaned before.  Last night discovered Bilt Hamber APC is supposed to work very well so will order one to tackle the rest.

ill post some pictures tonight

I used gunk too. It was next to useless. Flash (kitchen all purpose) was much better but still required a lot of work.
