The lad used to work for them

Cheep and cheerful but don't expect miracles with download speeds

I've been with them 14 years.
Always very happy with the service.
Download speeds here correspond closely with the neighbours' -
one on talk-talk, other on sky.

As with all bt phone line based providers, its the quality of the line that is important.

If your current provider is having issues on your line, they need to fix the line, although this can be difficult due to charges between the provider and bt openreach. Changing providers will not mean a better service if the line is poor, no matter what the providers speed tests might tell you, either online or verbally from call centres.

If you have a poor bt line, and are having persistent problems that remain unresolved, the only way to get a good service is to acquire a non bt phone line service, if available. Either cable via virgin media, or mobile phone network provider such as Ponyfone, O2, EE, 3, or whoever.

Just saying. :)

I've also been with them for about 14 years, and have never had a serious problem with them. On the rare occasion that I have had to ring them I have found their customer service is very good, and you don't spend ages waiting to speak to a live voice. I am currently paying about £15 per month for everything including line rental, but I am getting a long service discount, and its for the lowest amount of download. :y

The actual internet connection is "OK". Not great, not bad (unless they knobble you for using it too much), but "OK".

Their issues lie with the ancillaries, like email - not so long back they deleted all emails off one of their servers 3 times in a year...   ...and "were unable to restore it from backup", which is code for "we cut too many corners, and never implemented a backup solution.

When things go wrong, their suport is abysmal. Even BT (who own Plusnet anyway), winner of the wooden spoon award for customer service, achieve better.

But if they meet your needs, they can be cheap (if you threaten to leave at the end of each contract). I'd probably be inclined to get an ISP independent email addr, and consider using OpenDNS dns servers.

In my experience, once you get past the denials and excuses, things do improve.

Most of my family have moved to other ISPs, due to the frequency of niggling problems and the resolution times.

Well, either I've been very lucky, or you've been very unlucky, I know several people who have used it for years without serious problems. :y

As I said earlier, the actual internet connection is OK that vast majority of the time (assuming you don't cane it, or use VPNs too heavily)

I just use it for broadband and phone, and at £15 a month can't complain :y
