Vauxhall Rewards Debit Card (pre-pay doodah)
« on: 10 February 2014, 20:59:17 »

Got the link through from the Service Club, you apparently load it up with money to spend then earn points to spend at VX... whats the catch?

https://www.vauxhalldriverscentre.co.uk/vauxhallrewardsdebitcard

I'm tempted because if you put 100 quid* on it they'll give you 25 free points, which is seemingly 25 quid to spend on shiny VX bits...

*I apologise for overuse of the word "quid", my keyboard has gone senile, the " key is on the @ sign, and God only knows where the pound sign has walked off to...

Got an email about this, being a member of masterfit, you know, the one that no vauxhall dealers round here will entertain. Gave it a cursory glance and binned it.

Ctrl + shift is the shortcut for swap if I recall correctly.

I got one of these last year. Loaded it once with a few quid to test. Didn't get any points mind  :-\

Anyway, on the surface I thought it looked pretty good, but I wasn't paying attention! It can only be used in certain designated stores and you can't withdraw cash at atm.
Not sure that 25 points = £25 either? Definitely too good to be true that one! Although there was something about saving off a new car price? I'm sure it wouldn't be credit to use in the parts dept for example.
I must actually have another look at it now that you've brought it up. I had wanted it for an emergency back up sort of thing, but it didn't really fit that bill. Not for me anyway.
Having said all that, I guess things could have changed dramatically in a year!

"And don't forget, if you top up your card with a balance of £100 within 60 days of opening your account, we'll give you a 25 Rewards Points Bonus** - that's an extra £25 for you to spend at your Vauxhall Retailer.

Use your card to:

earn Reward Points at over 50 of your favourite high street stores, including M&S, Asda, Debenhams and Boots (see the full list of partner retailers)
spend your Rewards Points on a new Vauxhall, a service or new service plan, a repair or accessories (1 Rewards Point is worth £1 when you do any of these)"

For Vauxhall it is a money earner where they get a percentage of the charges to the retailer for each transaction, hence them passing on a fraction to you.

And far better rewards cards available that pay you in cash...  ...the last thing I'll ever want is a new Vauxhall (given their current line-up)

Apologies for my inaccuracy regarding the rewards  :-[
Would be handy for parts I guess, though no doubt it won't be applicable with trade prices.

I've caught myself on a bit now, and realise that I was half right  ::)

As stated, 1 point = £1 reward, but for a moment I thought that spending £1 also = 1 point. Wrong!

So, to earn a single reward point in Asda for example, you need to spend £34. It's still something for nothing in the end, providing dealers honour the rewards, but I realise my misunderstanding now which led to my comments above  :-[
