Rear Wheel Bearing - What's the best make?
« on: 14 February 2014, 20:56:40 »

Hi all.

I need my rear wheel bearing changing. I was thinking of buying the part so I have it ready.

Where would be best to get one from, what's the best make and how much do they cost?

Euro car parts sell an SKF kit for £43.80? Would that be any good?

Thanks a lot. :-* :-* :-*

SKF is a good brand, so I would have no qualms bout buying that one. I fitted the cheaper one that ECP sell, which is a bit of a gamble, but it's done 15k miles so far. And I can fit another if it becomes a problem.

Thanks very much Nick. :y

I think I'll go for SKF then.

Yes I think you're right. I think he's really busy at the moment though.

I was worried about driving 100 miles to Huntingdon as the rumbling noise from the wheel bearing is really bad. Do you think it will be ok?

I did about 1500 miles with mine like that as I was too busy to deal with it.
I dread to think how much GM charge for a bearing that they bought in.

It depends if there's play in it. It certainly won't be long before it'll fail an MOT, but he won't know it's noisy, so if it feels OK at the wheel, it will pass.

Thanks Kevin. Hopefully I'll be able to get it sorted before the MOT is due.
