poxy storms
« on: 15 February 2014, 12:02:40 »

Last night we must have had some kind of power surge to the supply, as a result it has blown the psu to our plasma tv.
I am going to replace the psu board myself after googling the problems, and all seem to say that the psu is the most common failure of lg flat screens.
Plus at the moment we are tight for cash and a new one is gonna cost more than we can afford to spend, its a gamble i know but i think and hope that it will work out, if not sammy the sledge is going to go into action. :(

I would have thought the PSU would be fused Gary.
Check all fuses on the circuit board and ancillaries first mate.
It could save you a few quid  ;)

Yes the psu does have 2 fuses hard soldered to the psu board but both check out ok. looking at the repair forums, they seem to suggest that one or 2 of the voltage regulators may have blown so have ordered a new board.
Al, yep i bet there are more important things in life than my blown tv, but at this moment in time it is just one more problem that at the moment i personally could do without. ::)

Phil, insurance company want to know when it happened (ie time) so that they can i guess check with the power co, and as i was out until 2.30 am this morning i can not confirm time.

Our previous telly was a 2007 42" LG Plasma. It died 3 & a half years into it's 5 year warranty (John Lewis). It was a PSU fault which caused no end of further damage inside. In the end JL wrote it off and we came to a very agreeable settlement about a replacement.

Fingers crossed * I hope you fare better .......

Modern SMPSU's are built to a price, not to a standard.......hence the high failure rate no matter who the manufacturer.
