Will they always be this cheap?
« on: 17 February 2014, 01:12:41 »

Now since my dad has owned his Omega B FL, I've always fancied owning one myself and this year accidentally proved to be the time that this was to happen! Just over a year ago when the old man picked his up he paid around £1000 for his 2.2 cd ... I thought that it was cheap as it had only done just over 70k but didn't have much history and a full m.o.t!
Since that time I have noticed that prices had fallen dramatically and similar examples are now struggling to achieve £600, My very own 03 plate was only ever supposed to be a parts car for the star silver 02 already owned by dad (and a bargain at £200 with test till July).
After trawling around the local adds I see time and time again prices at £300 - £600 for omega's with silly little faults that are easily repaired if your willing to take the time and effort to invest in these fantastic cars. Many others are seeing out there last days in breakers as people see the need to throw them away for no good reason!
That then brings me to the question "will they always be so cheap"?, not because I have any interest in selling my own, but more as an interest in how people see the need to value these cars as worthless and costly. More to the point, why are they so often overlooked?
And where the hell did all the Carlton's go??? they seemed to vanish almost over night !

Do any of the members of this forum see these cars are a solid future classic or will they disappear into obscurity like the older Carlton and Senator mostly have?

I think the older ones will start to increase in value soon especially the rare spec ones , like the carltons and senators it will be the rare spec ones that fetch top money although carltons seem to still available for little money apart from the lotus . Im holding onto mine as a future investment , mite take a while to get a pension off it though  :-\

don't see them as being particularly special in a classic sense and so doubtful if they will become much sought after beyond the usual suspects on here..

Personally i think the amount of complicated bits on the omega will kill them off, unlike my 73" basic Toledo!

Thats a good point, modern cars now seem to be too complicated for their own good, making them too expensive to
maintain on a tight budget. :(

very good points, but, unlike most moderns these cars are relatively easy to repair if you know what your looking at. So I guess that will help save a fair few  :)
