bought a very tidy 03 2.2 petrol but avin problems with power it struggles sometimes  its like its not getting enough fuel, had new coil pack,new plugs and recently serviced also had new cat sensor and had cat checked and its ok any ideas!!

Did you put a new fuel filter on

ASSUMED IT BE DONE ON SERVICE AND ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMES ON NOW AND AGAIN

AM NOT MECHANICALYY MINDE BUT DO I JUST TAKE OLD OUT AND PUT NEW IN BECAUSE THE DIESEL ONE I HAVE WAS A BIT MORE TRICKY

Changing fuel filter on a 2.2 Omega is a bit tricky too. I bought a tidy 2.2 a couple of years ago and it suffered from limited fuel feed. It turned out to be some chump had made a mess of changing the fuel filter and had used hose clips and bits of pipe to cobble in the new filter. In doing so he bent one of the pipes so that it kinked, restricting fuel flow. Have a look at the fuel filter, near offside rear wheel.

When I bought my 2.2, some monkey had put the fuel filter on the wrong way around 

Went better after a new one was fitted the right way around!

For 2.2, clean breathers is a must, it's considerable the improvement of just a decent service. I'm not talking what a local garage would do either, a proper removal and cleaning of the throttle body and breathers, no garage would really do this.

Where in the UK are you? Some here offer mobile mechanics

I'm saying it again .... Check your mass airflow meter .... My 2.2 was misfiring like hell and felt like an intermittent fuel feed problem (after head gasket change)! Unplugged the MAF and she run lumpy but well within acceptable limits ... Changed the MAF for one from a Zafira in the local breakers and EML now stayed off with the engine running sweet!   Also check all the things the other guys have suggested

get it checked in a live tech 2 session.. lambda and maf sensors could be joking


also compressions must be tested..

am near Grimsby Lincolnshire peeps and I had maff air sensor checked and it seems to be reading quite hot so am assuming this would reduce fuel flow!! Am I right or just dumb

also was intending to change fuel filter and air filter but am no mechanic any reasonable priced mobile mechanics in my area would be good to know

I don't agree at all ... mine runs really sweet and has all the power you would ever need, 2.2's tend to be more neglected I find so good healthy engines are hard to find. That said I just like to cruise around in mine and I'm fully aware she is no sports car (definitely shifts when you want her too though) 

The only job you have mentioned that has any degree of awkwardness is the fuel filter ... I'm told that they are a pain in the lower orifice  Air filter is just a few Torx screws and Mass airflow meter can be done at the same time as it's only 2 x jubilee clips and one electrical sensor plug, you can get good used ones from some vectra B's, Corsa C's or certain Zafira's for very little money ... Just check the part numbers on them.
