Whats the best way
« on: 06 June 2008, 15:40:23 »

To deoderize the interior of a car. I bought an Elite last week and its in brilliant condition but the previous owner was a smoker and being blunt, the interior stinks. I intend to give the leather a good clean and feed and wash the windows but ive got a feeling most of the smell will be in the roof lining. So any tips ;)

TIA

Split open a bag of charcoal and leave it on the back seat for a week or so? Never tried it but it's supposed to remove niffs.

When I used to valet cards, we used to do a full wet clean (including the head lining) followed by leaving a powerful de-ioniser on the back seat for 12 hours.

i took mine to our local big wash the other day, when they're done cleaning they stick a freshner over the mirror, but the smell kinda disappears as you get used to it, but with the warmth outside i drove round to see my girlfriend at her parents house just now with all my windows down and the sunroof right back, and when i pulled up she was outside and she said "your car smells nice, i could smell it before you even got here!!"

I would use one of those aerosol bomb aircon cleaners, they clean a lot of smells out.

You know they type, about a tenner, put em behind the seat and turn on with the aircon and recirc on for 10 mins

You,re local B&Q will sell a stuff called "sugar soap" , painters and decorators use it to get rid off smoke stains when painting ceilings , a mild solution of that on a warm damp cloth should do the trick !!

Best thing to do Pete is to start smoking - you won't notice it then! ::) ;D

I have had cars that smell damp as they have been parked up for long periods :-/  I usually just use an air freshner the stale smells gradually fade.

Neutradol is another winner. Spray that into your roof lining.
