Ignition Key Fob problems
« on: 25 February 2014, 21:33:15 »

Hello everyone , Im new to forum and first Post.
Purchased 2001 Omega Estate manual Sept 2013, beautiful car.
Only one key, everything initially working fine.

1. Ignition key sunsequently not working with car locked.

2. Ignition key will not open drivers door, and reluctant to force the key as I will either break the key or damage the lock.

3. Replaced key fob 2032 battery, resynch in ignition and all working OK for short time.

4. With non working key fob and car locked, am using the following procedure.

5. Open Tailgate with key, climb in and release down lock button on rear passenger door.

6. Close Tailgate and remove key.

7. Open rear passenger door, to release Drivers lock down button.

8. Car alarm is activated with Drivers down lock button moved to up- open position.

9. Quickly start car to silence alarm.

Any suggestions on how to resove these issues would be greatly appreciated.

The remote locking is a luxury, I can quite easily go without but need the Key to work in the Drivers door to both lock and unlock the car abd at present this does not work, key simply will not turn anything.

Kindest regards Squire 1

You coulld actually skip procedure 7 by going striaght to the Drivers door to unlock it and the continue with procedure 6.  :y

Item 2 ....  are you expecting the little button to pop up ?? if so .. you'll have along wait as it won't !!

Insert the key, turn it to its full extent (it won't break), then try and open the door, ignoring the button ... I expect you'll be pleasantly surprised ....however the alarm WILL go off ....   :)

Dear Zirk and Entwood

My appreciation for your prompt response to my key problem.
Key in Drivers door simply will not turn, somewhat reluctant to force in case I might damage internals including my motivation to solve the issue.

Maybe I should default to trying to fix Ignition Fob remote locking, if I can get this to work somehow, all problems are resolved and can live with key not working in drivers door lock, nor key fob not opening rear tailgate .

On Tailgate you can hear the servo working, but remains locked irrespective if remaining locks on car are open or closed.

Nevertheless my appreciation for your assistance. The car is probably the nicest all round vehicle I have ever owned.

Have you tried WD40 on the Key and Drivers Door Lock, as a general rule if its the right key when wriggled in the lock you should see some very minor movement on the Push down, Pull up button, where a wrong key shows no movement.

As Entwood says, a typical scenario when the Car is Dead Locked and the Battery goes flat is that you have to turn the Key really hard to the right, almost feels like you going to break it, before it unlooks, the button will not pop up and you need to use the handle at the same time to open the door.

On the Estates depending where you leave the key in position before taking the key out (cant remember if its horizontal or vertical now) will program the rear door to open the Tailgate as to weither to open or not when using the drivers lock or Fob or whether you need to use the Key in the rear lock to open it, either way with the Car locked you can still open the Tailgate with the key.

If the Alarm thing is getting on your nerves, as a temporary fix, you can push the drivers lock button down with the rear passenger door open then close it, as this will not activate the alarm system.
