Mrs Opti's New laptop
« on: 06 March 2014, 10:51:30 »

My benevolence clearly knows no bounds because out of the goodness of my heart I've bought Mrs Opti a new laptop.

Now I know nothing of computers, my last purchase being the dogs b*llocks with a mighty 32mb of RAM and an even more impressive 4GB of hard drive. :D :D :D.........1972 was a great year. ;D ;D ;D

Anyway. This new laptop cost £329 delivered and appears  to get good customer reviews........for the price.

Go on, tell me it's total crap. I'm waiting. ::) ::) ;D

To have that spec of computer in 1972 proves the rumours are true.. You must have an enormous house!

Sometime in the mid to late 1990's, I think.

Technology certainly moves fast in the computer world. :y

P.S......is a TB 100 or 1000 GB?

Mid to early ninteies was typicaly 486 DX's with 40-170MB hard disks and 4-8MB of Ram.

As for the laptop, the weakest link is its processor which is bottom end (certainly well below i3 performance)

I still remember when i was a kid and my dad brought home a new computer...

A Sinclair ZX81.... with 1.5K of ram, no sound no colour...

Then a newer purchase was made in the form of a ZX Spectrum +48K.... OMG it was fantastic...

The next upgrade was a Dragon 32....... as far as i know it still works, its in my Mums loft IIRC in a box gathering dust and spiders...

The laptop that has been purchased for that price is an absolute bargain, good spec and reasonable speed too.... The Toshiba Satellite laptops are a good budget laptop that leaves many in its wake....

It's worth spending an hour or so shopping around.

Price for the laptop varied from the £329 I spent, all the way up to £469 plus delivery at other places. :y

 ;D ;D ;D

Well you asked for it!

No seriously it's looks very good to me, but what do I really know about computers? :P

Tell me, does the "satellite"in the title mean it is connected to one of those things in space, or does it work on just wi-fi?  Always wondered about how laptops 'link in"to the internet now that I have a IPad. ;) :D

I would advise anybody buying a laptop to set a budget, find ones with the screen size you want and then get the best processor they can for the money even if it means compromising on RAM and HD space.

RAM and HD can be upgraded if needed......processor can not......well it can be it means buying a new unit  :y

So yes, you potentialy made the mistake of seeing lots of ram and a reasonable HD and compromised on the processor.

I say this as there are HP's out there for similar or less money with a little less RAM and half the size harddisk but better processors.  :y

Being a girlie girl, Lizzie. I'm sure  you know much more about kitchens, curtains, and fluffy kittens, than you do about computers.

Computers are man's stuff. ::) ::) ::) ;) :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
