Temp gauge being iffy
« on: 13 March 2014, 19:47:36 »

The temp gauge in my TD has usually sat in the middle of the range and gets hotter going up long hills etc , fans cut in temp comes down again generally well behaved .
So while servicing at Christmas oil fuel filters etc ,took the opportunity to flush out rad and cooling system as per guide on here,
All ok some crud came out  no leaks all tickety boo....except now gauge barely moves,it does move but only a bit, never gets up to middle of gauge and more often than not sits at bottom.
Been doing a few miles recently today 200mile round trip to Andy B country and was watching it most of the way,it didn't go past a quarter of the way up all the trip.
Should I be worried or look at changing stat or something?
Engine is running fine ,in fact really well :)
Should mention viscous is off!
Any thoughts anyone??

Air lock? Though I'd have thought any trapped air would've moved by now. Gunged up/failed temp sensor?  :-\

I didn't see you ...........  ;)

Start the car from cold, and hold onto the radiator top hose. If it gradually warms up stat is toast, if you get a sudden rush of hot water after a few mins the stat is ok and problem is elsewhere :y
