thermostat
« on: 21 March 2014, 10:44:09 »

Doing a bit of running around last night when the temp gauge red lined. Popped the bonnet and had a quick check in the dark, aux belt in tact and coolant full. Hoses didnt seem too hot so gingerly tried to get home but the expansion cap wasnt having any of it.

Went back to it today and topped up with half a litre of coolant and all seems well.

Im guessing the thermostat threw a wobbly and stuck.

Changed it a couple of years ago due to a leak around the mating flange and fitted a Q H thermostat on its own.

Hate doing jobs twice, (original obviously lasted 10 years+, so what brand should i fit / complete housing??

thanks

It's also possible that the water pump has shed its' impeller, of course. :y

It had a new one a few years back at timing belt time. The return hose kicks out coolant when revved so guessing the pumps doing its job.

Used a Wahler one on my 2.6 15 months ago all OK only problem being the flange is thinner than original so need to cut down or obtain shorter bolts .http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/opel-omega/omega-b-25_-26_-27/3861/10195- £29 although postage is pricey from there.
