We need more Newbies....
« on: 31 July 2006, 17:14:57 »

There are people out there that supposedly know how to get a website to come-up on top of the list when searching with Google or Yahoo (or MSN etc). Have you given some thought to this? Does anybody have any advice as to how to do this? I think most of us found the OTHER site using a search engine, and this is how newbies will find us....

Yes, we know what needs to be done. Remember we are only 3 weeks old.  We exist in the google index, just with a bit of a low pagerank.

If anyone wants to put our url on their own websites... ;)

Hello there, im a newbie (first post btw) I have already put Omegaowners addy in another site link page.

I found you guys through Vauxhallmechanics site.

Flyers is a very good way to advertise and stickers too.

May i also sugest, even tho the site is as young as it is, that you try and get a club stand at the shows i.e PVS and Trax etc, its another great way to promote the site. (Sorry if you have already thought on doing this)

Excelent site all

I have designed several websites that have eventually achieved first page ranking on Google and Ask

The best way is to put meta tags in the html heading of your index page. These tags have key words and phrases attached to them on what you would consider a visitor might use. ie Omega. Omega club. Google likes these, and also likes the same words spread over the pages of the website. The more Omega is mentioned the higher the ranking etc.

Other ways are creating links to all similar websites. The more links to other websites and pages the better. Link to anything that can reciprocate a link for you.

I found that by adding my website to certain websites and placing a link back to their site the greater Google liked it.

Hope this is of some help

Flipping 'eck this is an old thread ;D

The admin team have worked very hard of the last 22 months, and look what happens when you put Vauxhall Omega into Google ;)

Incidentally, Google doesn't not go too much on metatags, it uses content.  Google also change PR regularly to prevent artificial PR promotion, but there are a couple of surefire ways to help  :-X

My mates a web designer and I asked him a question on how to get to the top of the searchs.

The simple reply was, pay them, it's like the adverts on the telly, the most expensive ones are during the sports events.

Google are having a big clamp down on paying 3rd parties for top links - they want the money by sites paying google themselves for 'sponsored links'

I'm a newbie and I found this place after a Google, so you're obviously doing something right!

If I can throw a few things in here, which hopefully explain some of the factors behind getting a good ranking if not supplying a load of answers.

Optimising any site for search engines is part science, part art - and sometimes just a little bit of luck thrown in too.  The thing to remember is that the main engines - Yahoo! and Google - will rank a site in different ways.  Google look at inbound links from other sites deemed to be worthy places themselves.  Yahoo uses the older method of page title, META tags and content; these need to tie up so the title has words also featured in the META tags which are also in the content.

Like life however things ain't as simple as the very basic description above.  There's a lot of little tricks and practices defined as black or white hat in their methods and tread carefully - the dodgier stuff can earn a 6-month ban from the likes of Google.

Anyway, I'll shut up now!  :)

I'll just chip in a bit here.  Although AdWords/AdSense is a revenue earner for Google, it's distinct from the search results which are very much based on reputation.  Their view on paid links is a bit detailed and convoluted as well, but it's not absolutely purely down to them wanting the whole playing field to themselves. Just a very big piece of it  ;)
