No Handbrake
« on: 06 April 2014, 09:41:08 »

Since owning the car my handbrake has never worked , well maybe just a bit on the last notch but you wouldnt trust it  ::) Without taking it to bits because i cant , is there any bits i should consider buying to refurbish the system and get it working again . Cars been off the road 6 months . or anyone near that would do the job for me  ;)

you should consider a new handbrake cable as they are known to seize through lack of use.

Possibly mechanism, as some seem to seize far too easily.

Beyond that and Keith B's suggestion, strip, clean, readjust :y

Stage 1 : Get the engine to start  :(
Stage 2 : Pray the brakes are not seized on .
Stage 3 : Pick the back box up off the floor when it falls off  ;D

Stage 4 : Handbrake .

why not just use a screwdriver and adjust brake shoes in drum or is that too easy to do? ;) ;) if that don't work then you probably got rusted cable mech in drum :'( doubt its cable though

Before just adjusting, its worth cleaning it all up, IMHO.  Seems to be more efficient once the inside of drum has had a word with a wire brush :y
