Took my daewoo up Sutton Bank on Monday
« on: 07 May 2014, 10:56:12 »

Those GM 1.8 units have got no bottom end torque at all. It's a 25% gradient and my old, 1.6, Zafira would go up most of it quite happily in 3rd, but not the orlando. Rev the nuts out of it in 2nd, change up and..........nothing. ;D Down to second and stay in second.

Either that or the Pedal/seat/steering wheel interface has increased in mass ::)

Listen, fatty, I'm 12.5 stone and have been since I was a yoof. ;D

The passenger seat occupant may have increased slightly in mass, I suppose. ::)

Given the two engines are basicaly the same (with the 1.8 being a higher cc version but same block, head design etc, VVT, yada yada yada) it should be the same or better.....unless they screwed the gearing up and got the gap between second and third a bit long

That's a 1 in 4 hill, the same as Porlock hill.......which means it's fooking steep. :y

It's little wonder that your 'arthritic' Daewoo had trouble. :)

My MV6 would have romped up . :y

I'm not sure about the gear ratios but, as Tunnie says, the orlando 'feels' heavier. On the motorway, in 5th, it takes a while to get from 60 to 80.

Next time you are up there take your car up Rosedale Chimney. That is even steeper. I watched a bay Austin rally once there. They all made it!.
