Crankshaft oil seal leaking
« on: 09 May 2014, 09:48:49 »

Just want to make sure, it is the crankshaft oil seal leaking. The oil inside the crank pulley itself is plusgas and not from the engine. All other oil is from the leak. I've added some engine photos as well to help diagnose the leak.

There are other photos on Flickr of the engine. Please feel free to have a look and let me know if you see anything that should be looked at.  :y

Can anyone confirm this is the crankshaft oil seal leaking?

Is it best to buy the VX oil seal or is the one from buypartsby just as good?

Thanks

It certainly looks like it could be from the front crank shaft seal. I'd tend to buy from the dealer, you have more chance of getting a quality seal and as it's not the easiest thing to change you don't want to be changing a cheapo seal again if/when it fails

Have you whipped the cambelt cover off to confirm it`s not dripping from camshaft seals?

 ....

No, but a V6 REAR crank seal was £30-odd .... which for a common lip seal is quite expensive  ???

That's what I paid for the dif VX oil seal. The cost is all adding up with all the tools needed as well.  :-\

I'd try another dealer, as that's very poor  :(

They'll give you a price though. And as said, if you get from the dealer, you're more likely to get a premium make seal rather than a cheapo Chinese made from elsewhere. The difference in cost between the cheapo & main dealer is offset by the effort involved in changing it for a seal that'll do its job .....  not leak again in a few months.  ;)
