Sluggish Omega
« on: 12 May 2014, 04:01:51 »

My problem is that my Omega MV6 3.0. takes too long to shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th gear. Transmission is automatic. Can anyone please share your thoughts? I am thinking cam sensor? TIA

Define Slow.  What is your benchmark?

Cam sensor would not be on my radar.

Any fault codes?

Is your Gearbox on the latest ECU software?

I would be checking all engine vac pipes, ensuring mutlirams operating correctly, all filters clean, ATF is in good condition etc.

Too slow, as in it holds on to gear for too high revs before changing, or too slow as in once it starts to change it takes ages?

If the latter, what are you comparing it to?

I think both situations describes it.

What are you comparing it to, as it will never be a fast to change as a twin clutch setup like Vag's DSG

Also, the Omega autos are quite long geared, so if trying to accelerate, it has to use more of the rev range.

With that aside, are you seeing any slip when it changes gear, and does it change reasonably smoothly, or thump into gears.

It does change reasonably smoothly but a bit slower now a compared to before.

Before, as in the same car?  If the change has noticibly changed, assuming engine is in tip top service, I'd replace ATF.

The change points are self learning, so should adjust to match your style...   ...*should* ;D
