So dropped it off today, confirmed gas and service and diagnostic for £59.

What did I see in the forecourt? A red VXR8  :-* :-* :-* apparently the owner traded it in for a black one. I hear black ones are faster  ::)

Asked to have a sit, I had a good nose over it. Not really had a chance to get up and close to one.

The size of the brake pads  :o - Very meaty, looked dead easy to change, too.

So first impressions? It was a '07 so first generation, manual, cloth seats.

The seats were fantastic, really, really comfy, straight away felt comfy. Nice driving position, dash layout all very nice.

Good space in the back too, the boot was very good. Nice and big for a LPG tank  ::) Looked a little shallow compared to Omega, but defo room for a tank.

£15k, '07, 49k Miles.

Next I wondered over to an Insignia Elite, lots of toys, memory seats ect. But no matter how much seat fiddling, still not getting comfy  :(

You need them with the BHP they have  ;D ;D ;D

Yup, so all gassed up and nice super cold air now.  8)

They diagnosed a faulty valve, one on order for £3.something.

They also left me this, for cleaning the system. But did not put it in, as when they replace the valve it needs to be gassed again, so will put it in then.

This was the VXR8, there were elements of cheapness to it I thought. The glasses holder thing did not rotate around right, the glove box was very cheap feeling and thin plastic. General cabin in places not great, but then it is a cheap car.

Around £45, half hours labour for fitting  :(

But no cost for new/replacement gas.

When I had that. I paid for the 1st gas. Everything else was free

The ordered a wrong valve -  1 more regas
I ordered and paid for the right one. They fitted and regassed for no further charge.

All at my little local garage though

That's main dealers for you  :(

Guess I should have pushed more for them to get the part first, before gasing it up  :-\

But they only rang once it was all done.  :(

How much???????:o :o :o :o No way would take 30 mins labour, even if you allowed for shearing the block that the valve was screwed into ........  ::)

I like the Monaro though ............ it's (nearly) got my name on it  ;D ;D ;D

Well that's what they quoted. Its the little valve on full display though?

Bet they will say there is a minimum charge. Wonder if I can fit it and get the free regas.

This is what puts me off new cars that I cannot diy, the parts lady while explaining their service plan. Proudly told me pads for Insignia are on offer just £99 + fitting :o

When I had a local mobile a/c 'expert' do my Omega's a/c, a fault was found. We were just about to go away, so he topped it up for our holiday, he came & de-gassed the system for me, I fixed the fault (can't remember exactly - might have been the condenser  :-\) & he came back & re-gassed it all, all within the original re-gas price.

But, if you pay Vauxhall to do the job you can then return the car if need be under warranty ...... they have you by the short 'n' curlies  :(

Makes it even worse for Vx, but again so far Merc service costs are only a tad more than Vx!
