Sorry Tyres
« on: 15 May 2014, 22:13:42 »

Sorry but another question on tyres,  ::) on some tyres it says MO which I believe is Mercedez only and others where it says BMW would these be good for the Omega as they are RWD cars too. Please don't turn this into a bun fight  ;D ;D

Specifically, what tyres do you have in mind, if any? And what size :y

You're thinking along the right lines though :y

I really like the Kumo Ku 31's on my 2.2. Great tyre. Low noise. Good grip & lasting well.

Less happy with Nexen N6000 on the 3.2, only just enough grip for me  :o

Ku31 N/A. (Replaced by 39.)
Middle of the road grip and price. So deservedly, a mid range tyre. :y

(Irrelevant as not omega, but H had 31 on her Lexus. Nearly lost the back end a couple of times, so binned for sport maxx rt. Much better. ;) )

I have been looking at the SC3's as they were the tyre fitted by Vauxhall, when new.  :y

Mo are known to work well on 18's. Which have good rim protection.
I had generic sc3 (no rim protection iirc) on 17's with very good results.
Avoid, at all costs, the "Ao1" Audi variant. Its shite on omega, by comparison.

On that list, I'm having trouble with the F1 Assym 2's, esp in 18" sizes. The low grip is causing excessive slip, which I think is killing life  :'(

Also, the entire F1 range is being phased out, and it looks like the replacements may be wanky eco tyres.

I'm desperate for new rubber on TBE, so decisions, decisions...

Mr TB needs to either,
1) buy the stickiest tyres available.

2) Or, drive within the envelope of whatever tyres he has fitted at the time.

So, as option 2 ain't happening, Dunlop sport Maxx RT for him. :)

(Although don't Dunlop have a semi slick track orientated tyre? It will be crap in the rain though, obviously )

Says Mr Aggressive, Toad of Toad Hall, Get out of my way, a corner isn't a corner if you don't have to lift, Gixer ;D

I agree, I think its possible to overdrive a tyre, to the point it wears like buggery in no time. SC5s 3000 mile life is testament to that  :-[  >:(

3 weeks ago when on a trip to İstanbul I have decided to test the F1s to the limit, drove them around 230-240 kms/hr and and  despite the shitty cheapo wishbones having negative effect on corners , I was able to pass an audi a6 on a corner with 200 kms/hr.. if that tyre was not enough I'm sorry your "good" tyre still not produced ;D :y

ps: speeds are from a gps not speedo..

pps: shocks and springs are stock.. size 225 45 17
