hi guys...i must get straight to the point. I have owned an Opel omega 2.6 for the past 5 years and she has been good to me for all that time. Of recent she has been giving me transmission problems(automatic transmission). I am now thinking of a complete engine and transmission swap for a  Toyota 1uzfe V8 engine...

I am living in Namibia and opel omega transmissions are hard to come by, thus the idea to up power with the Toyota 1uzfe and at the same time mend my transmission problem...

I realy love my omega even if it means driving it with a power plant from toyota...ANYBODY OUT THERE DID IT BEFORE?

What sort of transmission problems? What is happening?

Has the gearbox oil been changed (Dexron111) ?

I doubt anyone on the forum has done such an engine transplant but I may be proved wrong!!

It might be easier to fix your auto problem.

thanks for your reply, I have hade the transmission serviced and a new filleter fitted and since then it has now been poping out of gear so to say. I have also noted an increase in fuel consumption and rough gearing.

A few V8 jobs have been done, mainly with LS1 or similar. Issue is with routing exhaust manifolds and space.

GM almost released one, but cooling and high speeds were an issue. That Looks like it would be a tight fit

Main problems are fitting everything in without fouling the steering box.

Rats omega has a lexus v8. Not sure which engine code though. Fairly sure its double over head cam, so very wide, so they had to fit a steering rack for the project to work.

Yours looks narrower, going by that picture. So might be lucky. Left hand drive helps slightly.

My concern is that how difficult it will be to get the speedo and trip computer to work of the 1uzfe engine and transmission...do you guys think it is even possible?

The Omega speedometer doesn't get the speed from the gearbox it gets the speed from the ABS module (& the ABS module reads the speed of the road wheels).

The speedometer will carry on working just fine I don't know if you will be able to get traction control working though

I think i can live without traction control, that is if there is no way of getting it to work.

and what about the trip computer, would you know where it reads from?

  I would be worried on how to wire it up, don't think you can get a manual gear box for this engine as well.

The same speed pulse goes from the ABS to the speedometer and to the trip computer.

I converted mine to manual and sold the auto transmission .. the operation is fairly easy for an avg mechanic..


manual box weights around 30 kgs so cargo cost from mainland or middle east wont be very high


also you will need the shaft from a manual , a pedal and the hydraulic .. the total operation took 2 days.. auto tranny is damn heavy be careful -85 kg-


ps: mid must be re-programmed and if you also buy a manual ecu you can easily remove auto tranny ecu from the dash (which I did)


but changing whole engine and tranny at a time is a big job really.. most of your sensors, speedo and loom even sockets wont match
can be done but it will take long time.. if you decide for that route find a working 1uzfe  example and transfer one by one..
