Electric rear window upgrade.
« on: 29 May 2014, 18:24:20 »

Thanks to 'COMBELLACK VEHICLE RECYCLERS' I have managed to source both rear window regulator's with door looms, all switches and a full set of nice door cards.  I have just started to swop over the bitz, only to find that the rear window motors don't work.   >:( However the fronts still work with the new switches!  What am I missing?  Or do I need the complete loom?

Fit a supersize 30amp fuse in the empty space in the top right of the fuse box under the steering wheel :y

Every body makes the same mistake ;D

 >:( I have now completed the eleccy window swop and fitted the jumbo 30amp fuse as suggested, still, the rear windows don't work.  :'( The fuse box now has three jumbo fuses and all relay spaces are full.  The only thing that is different is the looms and motors came from a saloon and mine is a wagon?!

Did you change the drivers door loom, assuming a facelift :-\

Actually what age/model is your car...

Doh! No I didn't is that the problem.  I never fitted the center-consul switches either as I didn't  want them.  Elwood is a 2002 ex-cop wagon fitted with 3.2 V-6 manual.

Saloon or estate? Not that it makes a difference, but yes you need the drivers door loom from a CD/CDX/ELITE. Must be a facelift one, so 2000 on :y

Out of curiosity, what's the reg number? Only asking as there aren't too many of them knocking around now and there are a handful of us interested in Plod Omegas :y

Yeh. An Oxfordshire motorway patrol car, Number 38. Hence the 'ELWOOD' reference, coz when I quoted my girls about cop suspension, cop brakes, cop engine, they both called it Elwood.

If the Elite is still at work?  I have been off for a few days, what would I need to upgrade to electric memory & heated seats?

Thanks for the offer 'Omegod' hopefully I will be in time for the parts.

Elite front seats need longer bolts and a simple wiring mod, but that's covered in a how to in the maintenance section :y

Heated front seats just need switches, rear heated seats need the seats, switches and the relay loom for under the back seat, again there's a guide and they're plug and play :y

You're car has an Elite loom fitted from the factory, so most things are plug and play with a bit of work. Illuminated sun visors and rear courtesy lights being two obvious examples...

Where you will run into issues are if the plugs are still present... the plod installers like to chop into the looms ::) Also estates without sunroofs are relatively rare, so you might be stuck with the plod headlining :-\

Where abouts are you? If relatively close I will gladly cast an eye over it before you get stuck in to see if there's any bits missing or needed :y

My ex TVP car has had all the mods you're considering, one of my first jobs when I got it being to gut the interior and deal with the wiring.

Ah, not too local then ::)

You might need some centre console parts, as the plod cars tend to have specialist consoles fitted instead of the standard arm rest. If this is the case, might I have first dibs on yours as I am re plodding mine...
