I am aware of diesel vans belonging to the electricity or gas board (can't remember which now) in Bristol some years ago being converted to LPG / Diesel fuel. Therefore I do not think this article is a joke but seriously intended. :y :y

yeah you can run diesel vehicles on LPG but not in the same way as Petrol vehicles.

I was working on a project coverting Diesels to run on LPG about 8 years ago for the North Yorkshire Police

They go well on the gas, use a 30/70 mix of diesel/LPG and away you go.

Also give a massive boost in power...

You can happily run a diesel on 5% petrol. So if you do inadvertently put some petrol you diesel , as long as it's just a bit you are safe.

I did exactly that on my old '02 BMW 525d. £5 worth of petrol and filled the rest of the tank with diesel and it ran fine. That would be about 7%...

Some people go as far to recommend it every now and then for solvent properties.

I do not know if 5% diesel in a petrol motor will work? Anyone?

I have looked into this as well, but as some other posters have said,you dont get the same efficiency as with petrol cars.

So it would take a lot longer to recoup the costs.

I wasn't aware of the boost in power though jon.

LPGing a diesel gives big increases in BHP. I go on the diesel section of the MG/Rover forum quite a bit and there was a race on to get 150BHP from a 2.0 Rover diesel. Some people were spending a fortune on Hibred turbos, massive intercoolers, big bore exhausts and chipping and upgraded diesel pumps when all they had to do was add LPG which would cost about £500. The only problem then is replacing the gearbox every few months because of the torque ::)
