I filled up the other day, makes me laugh that the max spend is £70 if you use the self service pumps rather than pay at the kiosk.
I think I shall be getting my bike out soon and use it to ride into work.
btw fill up in Swansea was 114.9 per litre at local Asda cheaper than the other petrol stations round here

I receieved an email from some buddy a while back, alot of talk etc about how get oil companies to lower prices, wont go in to all the blurb  But basically says

Do not buy fuel from  BP & ESSO  stations these are the main companies who control pricing , try to buy from you local Tesco/Asda/Morrisons etc etc or even a Shell station !!!

I do that now so if more did maybe cost of fuel will drop ! :-/

Plus the fuel tanker drivers I read somewhere have been on same wages for several years  so they have it good far ages anyway  ...

Most of the suprmarkets actually buy the stuff ready refined on the spot market and have it delivered to their holding tanks wherever. The main problem with "Don't but from xxxx" campaigns is that it is too complex to get enough people to do this simultaneously and so any potential impact is blunted. Another problem is defining just who is making the money from the pump price. I have seen a number of reports which reckon that once Mr Taxman has had his wack (and have you noticed that it is always reported as 75% tax when in reality it is 300%...the tax goes on top of the real cost, doesn't get taken off the pump price) what little is left is almost all down to the actual cost of getting it and refining it. The Oil companies don't have a huge margin on their work and the reason for the large profits is that at the moment they are not doing much in the way of opening new fields which is horrifically expensive.

When my Dad had his dealership, 5 years ago, we made a wmassive 0.7p per litre profit on fuel.

The money was made in the shop, the fuel is often a loss leader on it's own

Yes Richie for what good it will do! :(  Brown must know by now the feeling of the country.  The trouble is he has managed the economy so badly that there is no surplus cash in the Treasure to offset any fuel tax reductions, without cutting services like the NHS, Education, Security Services, etc................ >:( >:(

Well, im sure that the NHS could pull its socks up and start budgeting. The ammount of money wasted on trivial stupid things is criminal! As a taxpayer it hurts me! Yet where it matters- direct patient care and after services is run on a shoestring. No accountability or justice!! (moan over!)

I mentioned this before, but basically that email was allegedly started by some nut-munchers who hate BP and especially Esso (Exxon-Mobil). Ignore their advice and get petrol where it's cheapest.

As far as the price of oil is concerned, much of it is down to speculation and investment by big companies and hedge/pension funds. IMHO, the world price does not reflect true demand and supply and we are looking at a major commodity price bubble. It will burst (I reckon in September) and will hit a few big companies when it does so. I reckon the true market value of a barrel is around the 60-70 dollar mark.

That said, this thieving government could quite easily reduce the tax burden, especially when you think they are getting a windfall from the VAT which, immorally, is charged on the duty as well as the petrol cost itself.  >:(

In case anyone thought I was alone in my views, I just found this article:

http://biz.thestar.com.my/bizweek/story.asp?file=/2008/6/14/bizweek/1392569&sec=bizweek

Extract: "To puncture the oil price bubble, and yes, it is a bubble, Masters recommended that pension funds be forbidden from using commodity index replication strategies.

He added that the swaps loophole should be plugged immediately, thus causing all speculators to face position limits.

In all likelihood, if the recommendations put forth by Masters or moves similar to that are put into action, the oil price bubble may be punctured.

Judging from market developments in recent weeks, it may be wrong to assume that “nothing will be done” by the US lawmakers soon.

We will find out – very soon
."

Oh, and I also read elsewhere that investment banks such as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, etc. have stockpiled at least 8 times the amount of oil that is contained in the US strategic reserve. :o :o

Just waiting for that POP!!!!!  :y

That is taking the p*** .. but they are all at it.... within 30 minutes of the local Shell running out - at 118.9, the local Esso "suddenly" up his price from 118.9 to 122.9 .... rip-off or what ... .. just glad I ain't bought petrol since 15th of last month ..  but might have to put £10 in next month ... I'm down to 1/4 of a tank after 935 miles ....

Didnt bother with any fuel before the strike, gone out today the car is in the red.  Nipped down the road to pick my girlfriend up to go shopping and the Tesco had a sign up saying out of unleaded.

Picked her up and we pass a Texaco on he way back up to the supermarket, 3 cars filling up, looked like they had unleaded, stright in on to a pump, put £68.50 @ £1.179, paid and drove away.

Was totally gobsmaked, expected big ques and a higher price.

Dropped her off about 3 hours later and the Tesco had run out of Diesel as well.
