MOT passed, just a few question though
« on: 07 June 2014, 14:47:15 »

Looking for some advice after the MOT, if anyone can help it would be appreciated.
Put the old wagon through it's MOT on Fri, passed without any major problems, which surprised me a little ;D But she came back with a few advisories
The nearside front anti roll bar linkage has slight play
Steering Idler bush worn
Nearside + Offside rear parking brake return springs missing.

Are these easy fixes, am I looking at a huge bill for parts or are they fairly cheap? Also think the near side wishbone needs replacing as there's a knock from that side when going over certain bumps.

Another thing that came back on the MOT was the emissions. Natural idle was fine, better than last year. Might have something to do with giving it a good blast out before hand with a bottle of Redex. But the fast idle came back a fair bit higher than last time
My CO level was 0.18% against 0.06% last year
My HC level was 131ppm against 111ppm last year.
Lambda was 1.02 which is the same as last year
What could be the likely cause of the increase this year and what can I do to sort it.

Again, any help or advice anyone can offer would be appreciated, thanks.

Anti roll bar drop link is probably giving the knock when going over the bumps, 15 mins to change and no more than £10 for a new one. Cheap ones don't usually last that long but are "cheap" and they are easy to change.

Hand brake rear springs even easier with a big pair of pliers and a length of stout wire hooked over the end of the spring to pull on. After getting car in air to make room to get under it 10 mins tops.

Steering idler bush a bit harder so if he was not that worried then I would live with it for a while to be honest. If the knocking doesn't go when you change the drop link then I would suspect the idler bush.

Some MOT testers do like to give advisories!!

Idler takes ten minutes to change, just need an 18mm socket and two hammers :y only buy a vauxhall one though if you want it to last :y

Just done these on mine , makes you wonder how many omega's are running around without them  ::) I;m surprised its only an advisory for missing springs  :o

Thanks for the info guys
So all the parts aren't too dear and are sort of easy to replace? Is the steering idler NS or OS? The guy who passed it did recommend I get it done, said it was ok but would need sorting soon.

Anyone know anything about the emissions side of it?
