......as above, just got home after finishing at 8pm, driving along as normal, all of a sudden, engine looses power and stalls whilst doing 40mph, brakes, steering went, brown trousers time me thought, got it to the side of the road, got out and got an almighty whif of fuel came from the car, looked down the road and fuel was all down the road and underneath the car, damn pipe had popped off, never happened before. Put it back on but it wasn't very secure so had to use cable ties as a temporary fix.

Question is, why did it pop off? and will it be a case of just putting a new filter on? and if so, part number so i can get it in the morning? (4 pot 2.2 petrol)

It's not possible to fit the filter without the clips... the hose would keep slipping off :y

If you've not changed it then summat might have either been bodged or it's been dislodged during other work/failed over time :-\

If you're heavy handed undoing the clips, they can crack, so not unreasonable for it to fail after a jolt or as the result of fatigue :-\

Petrol filters same across the range :y clips should be free if your usual parts place has any sense...

To be honest with you, i never even thought about the clips or even noticed at the time as the light was fading and i wanted to get home quick, so ill have a proper look under there this morning.

How long do you rekon i would get away with it cable tied up? Just that i need it for work today, 14 miles) then get it fixed over the weekend.  :-\

Cable tied up well it will last indefinately!

Not much pressure behind the joints, its mainly vibration that might be an issue.

I had initially thought that, and yes, vibrations, some of the roads round my way are atrocious. I need a new filter anyway so ill get one ordered and sort it out at my leisure  ::)

Hence thinking had the clip fallen off or not been fitted before, as they really stop the hose going anywhere.

Quite unusual, not seen many failures like this reported here  :-\

It was the outbound pipe after the filter that came off, if you know what i mean, but i still haven't had chance to look at it properly in daylight, which wont happen until tomorrow now

All done and fixed  :) (gen GM filter and 2 clips). I had the rarest opportunity of being able to use the pit at work today which made changing it a hell of a lot easier (and to have a good mooch around underneath at the same time).

Conclusion, previous owner/mechanic who changed the filter had not pushed the pipe fully on until it clicked, so it eventually worked its way loose through vibration ect.
