The side bolster on my drivers seat has a nasty mark in the leather which appears to of been caused either by a comb or maybe a button on trousers by usage by a previous owner.

I am sure you can get leather stain like boot polish but what is the best way to repair this and any pointers as to better supplier.The seats are Elite leather which I think has been called "shale grey" does anybody have a better description or done this before with good results

I would check out classic car weekly for ads --there are a few companies out there that do renovation kits--Renov iirc

Found several ads online for touch up kits and pencil type sticks just need to be sure of the colour.

Had a quick google search for the trim codes , as i suspect you have already Andrew, but nothing forthcoming.

This may help a bit   . . . the trim code is XXLO   on my '03 green elite which has "Black " leather  although it is really more like

very very dark grey      the complete colour & trim line from the info plate reads  as follows:

Z380   XXLO   074

On the black  '04  MV6  with cloth seats it reads :  Z20C    XXHA    082

Sure the XX..  digits are the trim code .

Trouble is when you search places like Gliptone for leather touch up kits it list colours as "grey/shale/graphite" but does seem with the kit you get a mixing pot and additives to lighten or darken.Was hoping to be able to just get something like the paint code touch up pen and colour it in as its only a score on the bolster where looks like a jean button/stud or comb in back pocket has caught it on more than 1 occasion.

Dont really want to pay silly money to a Smart repair place as its only a small mark and would sooner do it myselfthat way I feel its done properly

Grey is grey, shale is beige and graphite is charcoal pre and early facelift are black rather than charcoal, but you get the picture

My vin plate does show the exact same code...Z20R...XXLO...074....so XX must be trim level and LO must stand for leather.

Question is what colour leather is the standard seats in a 2003 Elite.?

.They are slightly rough to the touch ,unlike the older MFL which had smooth leather but that was clearly Black.

By slightly rough I presume you mean a "grained " leather  . . . which mine are also . Earlier FL leather was the smooth finish one , like I fitted into the '51 plate 2.6 MV6    As for colour  . .  Taxi Al says  "graphite" is the darkest   so that must be our colour , very very dark grey like charcoal

Just thinking aloud here  . .  but I am sure in the past, by sending him the reg. No,  one of the admins had access to be able to tell exactly how the car came from the factory  ie, colour , trim , engine, etc. etc.
Can't think who it was though 

My thoughts on the coding is : Z20R  = paint colour   XXLO  = seat type   074 = seat & trim colour 

I'm sure someone will post exactly what it means  shortly

Yes bad description of the texture of the leather  ...it is grained, not smooth like seats fitted to MFL .

Do seem to remember others have described colour as "graphite" but would be happier with the correct code to identify colour from somebody like Gliptones

if its on a frequent touch area,  no repairs, paints , touch up etc will stay long.. the only way is to change the leather..

Bit drastic,cem,replacing an entire seat just due to small mark on leather.

Understand what your saying but sure leather can be recoloured to restore original and if it was caused by contstant wear due to metal button etc removing the original problem should solve the wear area problem.

it can be painted .. but I dont recommend .. the reason is I had a similiar problem so I visited dr vinyl and paid the money.. after 2 years it became the same   money spent or nothing..

The Grained type Leather was only fitted to the very late FL's 02 and 03's from memory, the give away with them is the additional stamp 'Active' on the Head Rest holes on the front seats (see Pic of one mine).

If your using a Filler repair on the leather you can make a Moulder to replicate the grain which is supplied with some kits, The Moulder is pressed against a good piece of your leather allowed to harden and is then used on your Filler Paste just before it goes off so it blends in with the rest of the leather before being painted.
