2.5TD, what chip to get to boost power?
« on: 19 June 2008, 18:15:50 »

Hi all,

Looking at getting my 2.5TD chipped, been quoted from £300 to £500, with varying levels of enhanced BHP. Anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers,
Iain

Superchips quoted me £500 for a 28hp increase, taking it to 156BHP. What is the BMW spec BHP? Have you got contact details of the guy in Oxford (E-mail, webpage etc)?

Thanks muchly,

Iain

Vx spec is 120bhp, so +28 is 148bhp

BMW spec is around mid 140s iirc.

Remember, bhp doesn't mean jack, its the torque and its delivery that counts ;)

I'll try to dig out the guys details, unless Platty/Omegatoy/etc who have had one can come up with them first and PM you.

Needs the ECU part number.

Is it a manual?

So what is 'chipping' exactly? Can it be applied to a V6? Have seen kits on flea bay with some good feedback, some bad too. But dont understand what it is or how it works.

Different fuel/ignition map for the ecu to (hopefully) provide some improvement to the stdandard one, be it more out and out bhp, better economy, or better drivability.

Yes, there are chips for v6, and a noticible power gain above 4k rpm.  Not a massive improvement as there are limits to what you can do to a reasonable normally aspirated setup like the v6.

Hi,

Its a manual. Superchips quote a 93NM increase with there chip, don't know how that would compare to BMW spec
