New car prices..
« on: 12 July 2014, 20:03:40 »

Stopped by the Nissan dealer today to look at the new Micras with a view to replacing Amy's 51 plate Micra - the new one is certainly much nicer than the old one and bigger inside..

Anyway we looked around everything else too, as you do.. the X-trail was quite nice, I thought, so now I'm home I'm looking at prices..

Nissan have a "special offer" on the top spec Diesel X-trail at the moment: £349/mo, £7500 deposit

Yet a basic spec Mercedes E220 Estate is only £359 with £5200 deposit? Makes the Nissan seem expensive ... though I suppose apples to apples would be £249 vs £359.

Choices choices..

The Nissan only has a 1.5L diseasel, mind  :o

Someone needs to wash his mouth out. ::)

Then again, they seem to be employed mostly as mobile traffic calming objects by the local geriatrics. As such, they are probably quite overpowered. ;D

;D They're very roomy inside, and feel a lot better screwed together than Nissans of old..

The 360º "overhead" camera view they have on that (and other models) is very clever too - four cameras on the roofline and you get a projected fake overhead view on the onboard screen as you park.  The gadget lover in me loves that ;)

I must admit I also quite liked the Juke  :-[

Whichever way you cut it that is a lot of dosh for a Datsun. :-\

There is so much choice on the s/h market for that amount of money.

Could Amy be tempted by pre-owned Nissan GTR instead?...... :)

If we sold the house we could probably afford to insure it, too... ;D

If I was looking at a new small car, I have a good look at the Hyundai i10 or the Kia Picanto.  Cheap but with big warrenties.  ;)  :y

I reckon  I could insure a Datsun GTR for less than £400 P.A.

The CLS 500 cost me less than £200 P.A......only about £70 more than my Omega. :y

I would tend to agree with that, Sir Tig. Buy one of the above when it's 12-18 months old and you'll probably save about 50% on list price.  :y

Secondhand cars come with a lot more risks than new, although if you're talking 12 months old those risks are minimal I suppose :y

Most cars these days are relatively 'risk free' for the first five or six years.

Personally, I think that too much money is lost the moment a new car leaves the showroom. You would need to figure this into the equation. :y

A 2 year old Kia Picanto will have 5 years of manufacturers warranty left!  :y
