IKEA. Love em? or Hate em?
« on: 16 July 2014, 17:31:26 »

I am just two hours in, assembling a wardrobe.

Well designed thing. My heart sank a little when all the bags of screws etc were laid out. However the booklet is well thought out. Getting it on its feet(off the bed) was the trickiest part but if ancient Brits could build Stonehenge then a wad of pillows sufficed for the job.

Bought an extractor and cabinet above as well. Came to fit it and I/They hadn't put "rail" to hang it on the shopping list. Also the hinges they said I needed were the wrong ones. 3 hour round trip to the place plus the obligatory hours trapped inside the place plus the queues to pay plus the queue to collect your boxes.

I am undecided. I love the stuff once it is installed/assembled but I hate the shopping experience. Even breaking it for your food and drinks isn't a particularly pleasant experience. Yergi Togii (meatballs to you) aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Anyway, back to hanging the doors. Should be finished in half an hour. Then it will be time for a Glugi (ice cold lager to you)

What do others think about the place?

I know what TB thinks  ::)

On the whole its good stuff, lasts well. I have some big up lighters. £5 each, still going on the original bulb 4 years later. Can't complain :)

Got one of their sofas, covers are removable. Handy, just stick them in washing machine every so often.

Cheap tat sold at premium prices.

The pure pine stuff is OK, though too soft for tables etc. The rest of it makes MFI look posh.

TBH I have little problem with their furniture.  We reluctantly threw out a unit which had lasted 12 years and 6 house moves.  At a push it would have done a couple more years but although it was structurally sound it was a little tired.  Most of our furniture is from there and quite honestly you could not tell which was and which wasn't.  As for assembly, I find it quite easy but maybe that's because I am used to how they are put together.

Last time I ate there though it nearly put me in hospital.  Food poisoning from a hotdog I had late on the 23rd Dec ruined Christmas as it set off the crohns and I was not in a good way.  I was literally inches away from presenting at A&E and if it wasn't Xmas eve I may have done so.  I had a suspected temporary obstruction around the illeum.

I still hesitate to go back for meatballz........mmmmmm, meeeeaaatballlzzz :P

Every few years SWMBO would pursuade me to go there with her. This was ok and served a useful purpose. That purpose was to remind me NOT to do it again for at least another few years.

We recently moved from London to West Wales. In london there were two Ikea stores in easy travelling distance, Edmonton and Wembley. Possibly the best thing about the move is that the nearest is now about 70 miles away and takes over an hour  to drive !  :y

Furniture.......what's that?
We have to  make do with a tea chest and an old plywood packing case.

Furniture is a luxury we can't afford.  :)
