Jelly was obviously offended, but when she said that got attacked by everyone.

Did she overreact? Bear in mind she was a new member, we know nothing about her.  A bunch of strangers said something that made her uncomfortable, and when she mentioned this, all she got was abuse back.  So, probably No, I don't think she overreacted.

Had she have been here longer and that happened, then I would say it may have been an overreaction.  But remember, for all we know, this may have been the first internet community she'd ever joined.

Firstly, may I take the opportunity to thank the many people who welcomed me to the Forum

It was especially nice to hear from Lizzie, being a woman.

I've owned several Omega's think they are fantastic cars, and I'm sure the Forum will be of a big help to me, with its blend of technical knowledge chat and humour.
I don't appreciate school boy humour Jimbob, please in future keep comments like that to your self

I actually got the impression she had been a guest for quite a while and decided to join.

It's a shame that not everyone shares the same sence of humour.  But at the end of the day you cant please everyone.  That's what makes us all different.

Flippin' 'Eck  -- I've missed all this.

But I'm so glad that I changed my signiture recently.

It used to say "My 3.0  V6 purrs like a  P###y (That "P" word)

Reading through most of this - it does  seem a bit blown out of proportion to me :-[ :-[ :-[

As I have said before, almost anything goes in genchat, so if you can't take the heat, keep out of the fire.  Other sections, inc newbie section, are different.

The original comment? Yes.  The way the new member was made to feel unwelcome after mentioning, no.

On reading through this post a sense of impending doom came over me. I'm sure some time ago i left such a post but on reading further it appears to be another member although i'm still not certain. :-/ Despite my occasional rant & over reaction i was brought up to be polite & respectful to the fairer sex, elders, friends parents etc. No offence meant but that's what was drilled into me 40 odd years ago.
I honestly cant remember whether i was involved but it is the sort of thing i'd say in a humorous vein. I'm happy to be named & shamed if guilty & proffer my apologies.
I do think there's an element of overkill here but none the less manners cost nothing.

Nothing. I've looked around & caught up a bit & whilst i hold with what i said about good manners this is needless. It's obvious to a 5 yr old no offence was meant for crying out loud. For those offended or crusading, get a grip.
I've spent an hour or two worrying i'd offended a lady member(i know i put my foot in it sometimes), & all over a cat?
     Mountains, molehills....no need.
