Aircon issue
« on: 23 July 2014, 12:40:30 »

2 weeks ago I've fitted a new aircon pump, new condensor and new dryer. After that it was pressure tested with nitrogen and afterwards vaccuum tested and filled up including new oil for the pump.

At 25C outside temps it's working fine, any higher it lacks cooling performance. It turns out the lowest temps out of the vents is 10C.

What also draws my attention, is a frequent sound coming from behind the dashboard. It sounds like a vaccuum is releasing some pressure. After searching through the forum my idea is this might be the expansion valve. Anyone who has an idea if this is a vaccuum issue or a faulty valve?

First thought is was it gassed correctly? Sounds like the amount present is borderline.

Although, is it worth trying the reset first? Press and hold auto and off simultaneously?

There are numerous buzzing and wiring noises from behind the dash. Is the noise in addition to those?

Forgot to add, I did reset by AUTO+OFF and also did a full reset on the sensors by a Tech2. Didn't help.
It was gassed correctly at 950 + oil for the new pump.

The noise is really like something blows off some pressure. Not like the more silent sound you hear from the flaps in the system when you reset it.

Had a similar issue with mine after replacing the 3 main culprits..compressor/condensor/dryer after finding numerous leaks although expected as much when I bought the car last year.

Turned out my temperature at vents would not reduce to less than 10/11 C despite correct gas/oil quantity and car running at normal operating temperature with outside at just 20 C.

Last resort was the expansion valve which is hiden way up behind all manner of dashboard parts and wiring trays. After it was replaced vent temperature now gets pulled down to 6C even with outside temperature in the high 20,s so seems they do have issues, but never experienced the noise.

I must be lucky because the AC in my car has not been regassed in the three and a half years that I've owned it.

Vent temperature with the system set to 'LO' is 2-3 degrees centigrade.....even on a hot day like today. :y

I think Dr Optis might be exceptional. Never seen less than 4c on any of mine tbh.

But -5c should certainly be achievable.

Noise does sound like a fault though. See what others say B.

Did I see some actuator tests on the tech 2 menu?

There is a re-calibration program which we ran, all actuators did respond and the reset was done succesfully however without any result.
