An execution in Arizona has taken nearly 2 hours to kill the person.  :(

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-28457460

I don't understand why we can take a dog to the vets, a quick injection and it's all over Rover!  ::)  A cow goes to an abbatoir, a bolt in the head, and its dead meat!   ::)  Someone can go to a clinic in Switzerland get given some drugs and off they go!  ::)

Why are the US authorities making such a oops up of this and how hard can it be?  :-\  Afterall, if it's considered humane to kill a cow with a bolt gun, why not a criminal?  :-\

Confused from Dorset.  :D

Thinking the same myself, a large dose of Diamorphine would suffice. If the US can't import the usual chemicals why not manufacture their own. :( :(

Some time ago the ex-politician Michael Portillo had a TV programme called something like "How To Kill A Person". It was interesting stuff, no really it was.  ::)

Couldn't agree more.

Would anyone have any qualms if it was a convicted peodophile/child murderer?

There was another story from America recently about a father who walked in on an 18 year old abusing his child-it had apparently been going in three years. The father beat him unconscious, then called the police and told them to come and collect the 18 year old.

The police pressed no charges against the father-saying he was defending his child and did what an father would.

A somewhat brutal punishment, but not one many normal people would argue with.
Was nice to see the police using common sense for once.

Some people would argue that agony should be part of the death sentence in direct correlation with the lack of remorse shown to their victims.

I think the French had the right idea. Bring back the guillotine!

No worrying about drug supplies.

One of the reasons these executions are going "wrong" .... is the right wing goody two shoes have been finding out which drug companies are supplying the drugs, and then preventing them being supplied, either by publicity pressure, shareholder pressure or political pressure. The EU has actually banned the export of phenobarbitone, the drug which used to be used, to the states simply because it was used in executions !!

So in attempting to stop a quick and clean execution, because they consider the death penalty inhumane.... .. they have made the executions longer and less humane !!

The law of unintended consequences ???
