Where to buy or calibrate a tyre pressure gauge?
« on: 03 August 2014, 13:33:52 »

I'm having a fiddle with my tyre pressures to see what works, and want to actually set them accurately. I know the local garages are supposed to be checked every X months, but where's the best place to get one to check?
Id buy online but I don't trust Pat to kick it over my fence, after an enthusiastic drive knocking it out of calibration. The same applies I suppose if I go and see the lovely Halfords ladies, so is there a way of checking one I do buy? And can they be adjusted if they are out?

Yes, I am definitely overthinkjng it. And I ask too many questions...

I've used an inexpensive Halford's digital pressure gauge for some years. It doesn't matter if it's slightly out if you always use the same gauge

Mate of mine is a bike instructure for brands leisure, and is constantly drumming correct tyre pressures into new students. He has a dial type pressure gauge he swears by, and gets calibrated regularly. He then feels the need to mock my 10 year old Halfords pressure gauge presuming it to be inaccurate, but in 10 years it's always read the same as his.

Conclude, a digital Halfords gauge is plenty accurate enough for reading up to 0.5psi accuracy. It's more accurate than his dial gauge in fact, which has been re calibrated several times. ;)

As long as the Halfords gauge is consistently accurate/inaccurate ....
