£145 the poorer.
« on: 08 August 2014, 16:26:44 »

I have just taxed the family Corsa online.

Surely with a small economical car such as this the road tax should be £0.

Bastards. >:(

Or for £30 VED you can have a car that can do more than 50 miles between coffee breaks :P

Exactly....and a car where I could actually complete my daily commute without worrying when sat in a  traffic jam  :y

My father always advised looking at a car and working out what the single most expensive but to replace/repair is when buying it. When that item is actually a consumable, ouch! ;D ;) :y

I hear you all on that.  I have it well managed now with contingencies.  I did manage a 48 hour round trip to sheffield a few weeks ago without incident.  Took an hour longer than with a petrol car doing the same-ish speed on which half was spent in the bogs/eating dinner, etc.

Cant wait for the Tesla Model E, 3 or III..... :-\ which comes out in 2017.  Now that will be a market changer :y

You know I'm only mildly taking the urine really .. I did look at the Leaf recently (it felt bigger inside than it did when looking at yours) :)

There's a fella at head office in the US with a Tesla Model S - he swears by it.. I'm guessing he also earns quite a bit more than me! ;D

The model S is something else!  I still have the whiplash from flooring it on the H1 in Hawaii!

But at the price it is out of most people's budget.  I have seen a couple in the UK but not many but that is because we do not have the same tax breaks you do in the US for such things. If I recall the model S our friend bought would only cost about $30k because of various tax breaks on the purchase of the car, additional solar panels and income tax breaks which in total knocked more than $40k off the price!

If only our Chancellor would do the same!

This is why I can't wait for the model III, same battery tech and thus up to 200 miles autonomy....... :o (admittedly 160 miles in real life, but still!)

Accoding to the log book the 1.2 Corsa throws out a miserly 146 G/KM. That won't pollute Mother Earth much.....it won't even give her a sniffle..... ;D ;D

What does your G/Km level have to drop below to become tax exempt?

Surely hydrogen fuel cell cars are the future. The  time to 'refuel' being similar to petrol.  :y :y

I could be tempted by one of these. :y

There's a date element to car tax as well, to ensure that only the newest, meanest cars get zero rated >:(

Onan would be proud ;D

The 700cc Smart's road tax isn't as low as you'd expect. I thinks it's a gram or so into the next band which makes it about £110/£120 per year. I can't wait for next May when they're all due again  ???  ??? £875 IIRC  :'( :'(

A drop in the ocean for a wealthy man such as yourself, Andy. :)

Little more than loose change..... ;)
